The importance of training the core

KellyFitness

Kelly Newkirk, a Woodland Hills Pilates Trainer, talks about the importance of training the core:

For many years, people have focused on developing strength, power and muscular endurance without developing the core. As a Pilates Trainer, I notice people everyday working out without proper form and not focusing enough on the core. Without the core working at its maximum potential, unwanted movement in the spine and pelvis is likely to occur and result in low back pain and injury. It’s also important to know that the body will sense muscle imbalance during movement when the core is weak and the superficial muscles of the arms and legs are strong. When there is a muscle imbalance, the body will compensate, resulting in inefficient movement and potential injury. Training the core will play an integral role in maintaining muscle balance throughout the body, creating efficient movement, and preventing injury from occurring.
